OMAHA, Neb. (April 21, 2008) – For 55 years, Anne Koch has dedicated her life to volunteerism. On May 1st she will be honored along with 219 other American Red Cross volunteers for their 17,160 hours of service in 2007 at the Third Annual Commitment to Making a Difference Volunteer Luncheon.

Koch’s commitment to the Red Cross began in 1952 at the Gretna Red Cross where she helped raise financial donations. In 1965, she joined the Board of Directors at the Douglas/Sarpy County Red Cross. While serving on the Board, Koch started to assist with blood typing at the Chapter house and blood mobiles in Gretna a few times each month. She currently serves as a registration volunteer at the West Omaha Red Cross Donation Center.

It is volunteers like Koch, who give so selflessly that make it possible for the Red Cross to fulfill their mission to meet the needs of the American people with the safest, most reliable and cost effective blood and blood products through voluntary donations.

“We are honored and privileged that these individuals are on our team as volunteers,” said Liz Brumm, Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator. “Without volunteers we could not provide the services we currently offer.”

About the American Red Cross

Governed by volunteers and supported by giving individuals and communities, the American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the United States. While local hospital needs are always met first, the Red Cross also helps ensure no patient goes without blood no matter where or when they need it. In addition to providing more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
