Red Cross Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Blood Donors and their Friends this Oscars Season

Free movie tickets offered for donating blood during February and recruiting a friend to give the gift of life too

OMAHA, Neb. (February 14, 2008) – Next time you go to the movies, you could have more money for popcorn! To help boost blood supplies during an often difficult month for blood donations due to inclement weather and the flu, the American Red Cross is giving blood donors a free movie pass if they recruit a new blood donor to donate blood or platelets at a participating Blood Donation Centers during February.

To be eligible for the free movie tickets, blood donors and their friends must complete a Bring-A-Friend card, both donate blood during February 2008, and the friend must be a new blood donor or someone who hasn’t donated since January 1, 2006. Once both donate blood and turn in the cards they will each receive a free pass to see a movie of their choice!

The movie ticket promotion and Bring-A-Friend redemption cards are available at the participating Blood Donation Centers below. It is not required that the donor and friend give blood at the same location or on the same date, but both donors do need to give blood at a participating location during the month of February 2008.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 years old, 16 years old with a signed parental/guardian consent form in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri, and must weigh at least 110 pounds.
