OMAHA, Neb. (July 7, 2008) – Join Superhits 99.9 KGOR and the American Red Cross on Monday, July 14th for the 15th Annual Rock n’ Roll Up Your Sleeves Blood Drive.  The drive will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m at the Heartland Chapter Red Cross building off of 84th and Center St.

Donors will enjoy a day of special food provided by Texas Roadhouse, Whole Foods and Jimmy Johns, music from Superhits 99.9 KGOR and other giveaways. All presenting blood donors will also receive a free rock and roll t-shirt and have a chance to win free tickets to an Omaha Royals baseball game, The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo or to the Joslyn Art Museum among other prizes.

“Summer can be a difficult time to collect enough blood to meet the needs of patients because many donors forget to schedule their appointments because of vacation travel and summer activities,” said Dr. Ram Reddy, Interim CEO of the local Red Cross Blood Services region. “It’s important that eligible blood donors find the time to donate blood during the summer months.”

The average blood donor gives less than two times a year. It’s important to remember that you can donate whole blood every 56 days. The need for blood is constant, give a little of yourself and donate blood. When you give blood to the Red Cross, you can change a life, starting with your own.

About the American Red Cross
Governed by volunteers and supported by giving individuals and communities, the American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the United States. While local hospital needs are always met first, the Red Cross also helps ensure no patient goes without blood no matter where or when they need it. In addition to providing nearly half of the nation’s blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
